Earth Day 2020
The Earth. Paused.
And took a long breath.
Savouring the unfamiliar tastes,
Of purity, of stillness, of quiet.
And wondered where the people were.
Enjoying nature's reverie,
A blissful calm.
And healed its wounded heart.
Treating its riven scars,
A peaceful rest.
Paused. Mankind in lockdown. People forced to stay indoors. And the Earth is placed on a wel
The moon looked out to a turning planet,
A swirling world at a turning point,
Riven and ravaged by mankind.
Climate raging unstoppable.
The sadness of oceans,
Depths of blue that current wept
With the whitened wisps of clouds
Appeared as if timeless and unchanged.
But the moon noticed
And stared, a forlorn silent observer.
You've changed, said the moon.
To see the Earth from space, the planet must app
Major Tom's Lament
Here am I still sitting in a tin can
Far above the world.
But our planet earth
Is no longer blue,
But blackened and grey
And permanently stained.
By industry that smokes and chokes
The air we breathe,
And pours poison
Into the dying seas.
And cuts down the trees.
Gouging huge holes in the ground,
For the sounds of and diamond and gold.
And lays forests to waste
And plunders the seas.
This beautiful Earth
Broken and on its knees.
