Listen Again

When faced with overwhelming bereavement and grief, music has both the power to heal, but also to hurt. Some songs soothe, while others bring up painful emotions.

Lyrics once meaningful, now meaningless

Songs that were once part of you, now affect you deeply, scarring emotions and leaving the ache of loss within.

This poem is about those songs that once meant so much, but in grief are intolerable and so affecting you can not listen to them anymore

Listen again

Songs of before

Melody played

Lyric and note heard

Sound enjoins you to listen again

That melody so loved

Harmony in verse and chorus...yet

Chords struck to fade

Now broken to discord

Resonance shattered into dissonance

Lyrics jumbled and confused

All that you heard scattered

Sound becomes noise

And nothing else
