What Makes A Poet?

What Makes A Poet? What makes a poet ? Is it worn lines in a tired face Each line a trace Of memory and experience Life lived through years Of blissful childhood ignorance And youthful discovery Of knowledge acquired and wisdom heard Of mistakes made and lessons learnt Of places seen and people met Of love requited and hearts broken Indeed it is all of these And more besides But a poet is not by age defined It is a life lived and appreciated Which teaches us all And it is those lessons The poet writes and records For the world to read to listen And to share _____________________________ All our experiences shape who we are...but it is the writer and the poet who observes the lessons life constantly throws at us and translates these to words.
