53rd Lap of the Sun
53rd Lap of the Sun
53rd lap of the sun
Mid point in the life race
Begun before man stood
On the moon and the
Gaia Hypothesis had not
Entered public consciousness
53rd lap of the sun
That started while young
Men waged a futile war in
'Nam, and 53 years of 'peacetime'
Have seen constant conflicts
And a planet never at peace
53rd lap of the sun
When my first cries rang out
As the cries for justice for
Martin Luther King, 3 months gone,
Continued to ring out, I have a dream
Yet 53 years on, the fight for equality goes on
53rd lap of the sun
When the world was a changing
And people were a travelling
And a ravaging and destroying
Its one and only resource
And now look at us, how the climate's changed
53rd lap of the sun
When the Beatles White Album
Went Back to The USSR with
Dear Prudence as her Guitar Gently Wept
And the songs have hardly aged
But the years like Blackbirds wings have learned to fly
53rd lap of the sun
Begun in Bundes Republik Deutschland
By way of Hong Kong, and Indonesia
And Malaysia and England's green and
Every changing land,
But still here. Following the sun.
53rd lap of the sun
The next half of life
Underway, a wealth of experience
Gathered with aging bones, aching joints,
And decades of every possible emotion.
But still here. Following the sun.

A poem on my 53rd birthday
Born on 27th July 1968 in Hanover Germany, raised and schooled and experienced in life over 5 decades in Hong Kong, Germany, Indonesia, Malaysia and England's green and changing land.
