A Traveller

I was once a traveller, lost, alone.

A stranger welcomed me

Took me into their home.

Fed me, offered up their their bed.

But when I offered them money

They would not accept it, instead

They returned my thanks

With kindness & smiles,

As humanity smiled deep in their eyes.

Photo. 1997, sat above the Pearl River near Hue, central Vietnam. I was travelling alone, 28 years old. In all my travels I only encountered kindness, welcome, friendship and curiosity...never animosity, distrust or suspicion. Perhaps we should view refugees, migrants, foreigners the same way.
