I Was A Bird Once

I was a bird once Far flown and free Drifting and gliding Endlessly uplifted I was a bird once Horizons envisioned And visited often Time unbounded I was a bird once Far from that I knew and time distant To find myself at wearied rest Called home to sounds familiar And so I returned Flights of impulsive travel Grounded ceased eased and stilled I landed again to nest Yet never forgot I was a bird once I have travelled. I have journeyed far and have journeyed long. But home always called. And I eventually returned. As I knew I would. I was a bird once.
