Youth

Youth Has youth deserted me Has it gone forever Lost to memories Or does it still reside In the smile unchanged And the kindness of words Does time youth forget Or youth accompany time In silent partnership Will youth again resurface In the optimism Of a warming sunrise Or the winds that blow Energising and invigorating Has youth taken its leave From a wearying body Or has it taken its rest In a mind ever youthful Willing, expecting Hopeful of a return _________________________________ We all age in the passing of time, yet while the body may creak and strain, the mind deceives - desirous to cling to youth. I approach 50 years of age this year, yet my mind remains in blissful ignorance and still feels the youth of decades past. The photo is of a 15 or 16 year old me at boarding school in Dover, Kent UK circa 1984.
